Free community education in Worcester

Community Conversation Series Part 2: The Green Rush: Restorative Justice + Community Reinvestment Opportunities

The legalization of cannabis in Massachusetts means much more than access to the plant for those who want it: Legalization brings opportunities not just for the consumer, but for people from all types and levels of professional experience, regardless of their past with the plant. But for many hopeful industry participants and entrepreneurs, real financial and social capital barriers exist when it comes to business ownership in the Commonwealth’s legal cannabis industry.

Please join ELEVATE Northeast for a timely discussion with a panel of front-line cannabis industry specialists about the Social Equity and Economic Empowerment programs implemented by the Cannabis Control Commission to actively engage Blacks, Latinos, women, veterans, and other traditionally marginalized groups in meaningful participation as licensed business owners.

Event goals:

1. Facilitate an engaging and comprehensive review of training and business support opportunities available through Massachusetts' Adult-Use Marijuana Social Equity Program

2. Discuss and measure the Massachusetts cannabis equity program's outcomes

3. Provide action steps for attendees to support the Commonwealth's efforts to build sustainable pathways for individuals and businesses into the regulated cannabis industry

4. Educate the community of viable economic empowerment opportunities in the state with the largest concentrated number of approved adult-use cannabis license applications

Register today for this free event where you will learn valuable information and network with potential partners, investors, service providers and suppliers!

Free community education event in Roxbury

Community Conversation Series Part 1: Cannabis and Me

As legalization spreads across the country and marijuana businesses seek to open in our communities, everyday citizens not directly involved in politics or cannabis industry businesses are left with questions unanswered, and the long-standing stigma against the marijuana plant and the people who use and/or work with it remains, potentially limiting career and community impact opportunities.

As a parent, grandparent, guardian, teacher or community leader in Massachusetts, now is the time to take a proactive approach to understanding the many benefits of marijuana and why more states, businesses and individuals are welcoming new regulations. Empowered with facts regarding the science and data around cannabis as a medicine, and the economic reasons so many businesses and individuals are jumping into the new legal industry today, you can elevate the conversation at home and in your community while lessening others’ fear and opening their eyes to new ideas.

Don’t miss this free and welcoming event from ELEVATE Northeast. Complimentary refreshments will be served. Please view our sponsor options here and contact team@elevatene.com if you are interested in collaborating on this community outreach event as a speaker, sponsor, or other supporter.

Time's Up: A Discussion about Sexual Harassment in the Cannabis Workplace

You've seen the headlines: From Harvey Weinstein to Al Franken and Steve Wynn, our newsfeeds have been rife with disturbing allegations of employers and others in positions of power committing acts of sexual harassment and assault against women and LGBT individuals in particular. And while Hollywood and the halls of Congress feel far away, the issues of workplace sexual harassment and sexual violence exist in all industries, cannabis included.

However, unlike established industries, we in cannabis have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create an industry with higher standards and to weave into the fabric of our companies and brands a commitment to protecting our employees.

That's why ELEVATE New England is proud to invite employers and employees alike to join us on May 2, 2018 (originally March 8) for a vibrant conversation about what cannabis businesses can do to empower and protect their organization, leadership, and employees when sexual harassment occurs in their workplace. Our speakers will also provide attendees with tips and resources for reacting and responding to workplace sexual harassment.

Speakers

  • Kim Napoli, Attorney and Cannabis Advisory Board Member

  • Sharon Schiffrin, Community Awareness and Prevention Services Coordinator at the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center

  • Maggie Kinsella, Press Secretary at MassCANN/NORML

  • Beth Waterfall, Executive Director of ELEVATE New England

Thank you to our event partners, Burns & Levinson and the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC), and to our event sponsor Sensi Magazine.
